Greetings from the State of Wisconsin Brain Injury Advisory CouncilEach year approximately 1.4 million individuals in the United States will sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI) from motor vehicle-traffic crashes, falls, assaults, or other means.* Annually in Wisconsin around 5,700 people will sustain a TBI.** Although statistics are difficult to obtain, we know countless others will acquire brain injuries (ABI) by other means such as experiencing a loss of oxygen, brain tumor, aneurysm, stroke, or seizure disorder. No matter how a brain injury is sustained, there is a likely to be a significant impact on the life of the person injured, as well as on those who love and care for them. The Brain Injury Advisory Council (BIAC) is a group of committed individuals who have come together to help improve the lives of those affected by brain injury. It is composed of representatives with brain injury expertise, including consumers, family members, providers, state and county representatives and advocates. We are appointed by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Services to engage in successful education, training, and legislative and policy advocacy on issues affecting people with brain injuries. You can find information about our work on this website. Please use this site to learn about our efforts. We welcome volunteers to our committees. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us! It is an honor to work for the people of the State of Wisconsin for whom brain injury is a part of their daily lives. It is our sincere desire that this Advisory Council will help secure a brighter future for people with brain injuries. We will strive to be hope in action. Sincerely,
